Antibiotic resistance is a large and growing threat to public health, causing over 35,000 deaths a year in the United States alone. The animal agriculture industry is the largest user of medically important antibiotics and a major contributor to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria (AR-bacteria). AR-bacteria pose a massive health risk to the public, with agricultural workers and people living near animal agriculture facilities at particular risk.
